White Horse Tavern

White Horse Tavern

(between 11th St & Perry St)
New York
West Village

White Horse Tavern is to people watching what Babe Ruth is to baseball: the original and the best.  Take a seat on the patio in the front, order a few brews, and relax as all manner of downtown New Yorkers stroll by in all their splendor and glory. The Tavern is situated in the West Village, which, while not necessarily in the heart of Manhattan, allows for colorful, and in many cases, downright sexy New Yorkers eager to let loose on a warm weekend evening. The vibe here is low key and unpretentious and the drinks are as well, especially by West Village standards. So, for a more relaxed time-- especially in the early evening in the spring or summer-- in which you and your boys unwind before a big night out, the White Horse Tavern is tops.

Venue Tip:

Point your eyes towards Magnolia Bakery a block away. Gorgeous girls in sundresses devouring cupcakes the size of their, um, heads and crowing about how Samantha from Sex and the City loves vanilla frosting, makes for great entertainment. Tell one of the girls your nickname is Mr. Big and she’ll be like putty in your hands.

The Good:
Outdoor seating, beer, reasonably priced shots, fun bartenders, great area with lots of options for entertainment.
The Bad:
Unfortunately, the food isn’t terrific, and the crowd could often be referred to as a “sausage fest.” The crowd on the street is another story entirely.
