Sure, Budweiser commercials may have more chicks than Toronado does, but trust us: the beer is better here. In a city where you’ll increasingly find craft beers on offer almost anywhere, Toronado is the beer bar in San Francisco. This is decidedly not much of a pickup spot, but that’s not the point: Between the draught options and the big bottle fridge, they usually have anywhere from 50-100 beers available. And through a loose affiliation with Rosamunde Sausage Grill next door, you can order a wild boar bratwurst over there and enjoy it over here. Together you’ve got a solid grime + grease experience that may not end in you getting any phone numbers, but will surely make for a solid dude-oriented experience.

Venue Tip:

Try a hand-pumped beer. It may take you a minute to get over the lukewarm, slightly flat texture (“Hey, am I drinking someone’s day-old Guiness?”), but you can forever after be the obnoxious beer expert at the party.

The Good:
The bartenders here are very serious; tell them what you’re into and place your beer-drinking experience in their capable hands.
The Bad:
The bartenders here are, well, serious. They don’t take violations of the “no-drinks-on-the-jukebox” rule lightly, and don’t even think of waving money at them.
